$2,500 Goal

The Ocean View Community Foundation (OVCF) has a clear mission that closely aligns with San Diego Gives:  To serve the community, support families and strengthen the children of South Bay San Diego.  Established in 2019, the OVCF immediately set out to distinguish the scope of specific needs of the South Bay community. The following statistics revealed a serious problem:

  • 25.7% of South Bay families live at or below the Federal Poverty Limit

  • 32% of the South Bay children (ages 2-11) spend more than 5 hours per weekend day on sedentary activities

  • Over 40% of South Bay families are single-parent households

  • 43% of South Bay families receive food stamps/SNAP.

The OVCF assessment was clear and essential solutions followed.  Within months, these efforts evolved into an active plan and instrument to respond to the inclusive needs of the community with a local-first approach, proven to have tangible impacts.

Our primary instrument is the Ocean View Sports Park (OVSP).  OVSP is a multi-million-dollar project to build a premier outdoor athletic facility on over ten prime acres of Southern California real estate. OVCF has received funds to begin Phase One of the building project, which is an outdoor arena field on the southwest corner of OVSP.  We are seeking funding for Phase Two, to complete the sports park by providing adequate lighting, artificial turf installation, amphitheater seating, landscaping and parking areas.
