Saving Gus & Tavi

Gus and Octavia — lovingly called Tavi — have been failed more times than any living soul ever should be.

They were first discarded at a high-kill shelter, already in pain and suffering from severe eye infections. Despite medical care, the damage was too great. Both Gus and Tavi lost an eye — a permanent reminder of the neglect they endured before anyone ever showed up for them.

But the heartbreak didn’t stop there.

The rescue that pulled them — the moment that was supposed to mean safety — abandoned them yet again. Gus and Tavi were left behind in boarding with unpaid veterinary bills, unpaid boarding fees, no food, and no plan. No one came back for them. No one checked on them. They were left scared, confused, and forgotten — once more.

Imagine surviving pain, surgery, and loss… only to be dumped again when you’re most vulnerable.

Gus and Tavi didn’t give up. They’re still gentle. Still trusting. Still hoping someone will finally keep a promise to them.  Stephen Hanson of The Angel Foundation, Blanca Mendez and Becky Bynum have been a tremendous help on saving and advocating for these dogs and have partnered with us to ensure a happy ending for them.

Right now, they need our help. They need funds to cover the medical care and boarding that kept them alive when others walked away. They need proof that humans can be better than what they’ve known.
